About Me
Hi! I’m Jessica Lustig and I'm an academic and test prep tutor with 8+ years of experience.
My teaching journey started in 2016, when I entered the Multiple Subject Teaching Credential Program at San Jose State University. I graduated with a Masters in Education in 2017 after completing an intensive dual credential and masters program.
During my time in the program, I became increasingly aware of the need for more individualized support, so I decided to transition from becoming a teacher to becoming a tutor. I became a tutor for a Bay Area based company called AJ Tutoring. I was initially hired as a K-8 tutor, but eventually crossed-trained in high school math as many of my students wanted to continue working with me as they advanced in their studies.
As a professional tutor, I work with students who have diverse learning differences and/or varying levels of understanding. I tailor each session to fit the individual student, ensuring they receive the kind of support that suits them best.
I believe that effective tutoring involves more than just teaching content—it also requires building a rapport with students. That’s why I make an effort to connect with my students through shared interests and hobbies. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, going to the movies and concerts, reading, and attending book club every month. By connecting with students both academically and personally, I’ve found they are engaged, motivated, and willing to trust me with their learning. This trust is a crucial part of the learning process, and it has led to meaningful growth and success in both my past and current students—often beyond what they initially believed they could achieve.
Although I no longer tutor at AJ Tutoring, I’ve taken everything I learned there into my own practice and look forward to helping more students reach their fullest potential.
